The Ringfort's Legendary Blacksmith

Uinseann, the ringfort's blacksmith, is a legend. His forge breathes life into metal, crafting both the tools that build the community and the weapons that defend it. From intricate jewellery to gleaming blades, Uinseann's mastery is a cornerstone of the ringfort's resilience.

A Master of Green-Wood Craftsmanship

In medieval times, a Bodger was a skilled green-wood craftsman who traveled between settlements to offer repairs and produce tools for locals. At Craggaunowen, Sean the Bodger dedicates his time to crafting tools for artisans, repairing furniture, and creating various wooden items. He can often be found roaming the forest, assessing where his skills are needed, or gathering fallen or dying trees to use in his work.

Meet Arno

The rhythmic soul of the Crannog,

Arno is a master of three trades. With a craftsman's touch, he transforms animal hide and wood into functional drums for tribal ceremonies, then uses his musical talents to bring them to life.  His skilled hands also craft beautiful and useful leather goods, from belts to bookmarks, ensuring both beauty and utility within the Crannog.

Meet Áine

Residing within the castle walls, Áine is a weaver who breathes magic into thread. Her skilled hands transform raw fleece into soft yarn, which she then dyes using the vibrant hues of local plants. The resulting spectrum of colours is a testament to her creativity. Áine's loom then brings these threads to life, weaving tapestries, clothing, and other textiles that are both beautiful and functional.

Meet Maebh

Weaver of Castle Cloth

Within the castle walls, Maebh transforms sheep's fleece into the very fabric of life. Her skilled hands card and spin the raw wool, creating soft, warm yarn. Using a traditional warp-weighted loom, she meticulously weaves this yarn into sturdy cloth. From there, Maebh's keen eye tailors the cloth into garments that drape the castle residents in both comfort and style.

The Basket Weaver

Crannog resident Sally is a master basket weaver. Her nimble fingers transform natural materials like grasses, reeds, and willow into beautiful and functional baskets. Using a variety of weaving techniques, Sally crafts baskets for every need, from utilitarian storage containers to decorative centrepieces. Her creations are a testament to the beauty and versatility found in nature.

Master of the Lathe

The rhythmic hum of Jack's treadle lathe echoes through the Ringfort, a constant melody of creation. A true wood whisperer, Jack coaxes functional and beautiful objects from formless timber. Using his pole lathe, he crafts everything from smooth bowls and goblets to sturdy furniture legs and intricate tool handles. Each piece is a testament to Jack's skill and the natural beauty of the wood.

Within the Crannog walls, Stefan serves as more than just a chief. He is a wellspring of Gaelic culture. His calloused hands etch stories of Irish myth into wood, preserving the ancient Ogham script for future generations. Stefan's knowledge extends beyond language, encompassing traditional games like Skittles and lively discussions about the rich tapestry of Gaelic lore. He ensures the traditions of his people not only survive but thrive within the heart of the Crannog.
