PRIMARY SCHOOL TOURS

Bring ancient Ireland to life with Craggaunowen's Primary School Tour. Students step back in time exploring the castle, crannógs, and ringfort learning how our Celtic ancestors lived, worked and survived long ago. This unique and immersive experience allows children to observe intricate skills and crafts, meet colourful characters of the Bronze Age, visit the Brendan Boat exhibition, and explore a Souterrain.

Education FAQ's

Q. What time does Craggaunowen open?
We open at 10am until 5pm. Our official season is April to the end of August but we may open ourside of this period on request.

Q. How do you pay for school tours?
Payment can be made in advance or upon arrival at admissions. No groups can be admitted without full payment being received.
We accept the following:
- Bank Transfer*
- Credit Card
*Bank Transfers must be paid 2 weeks in advance of your booking and are non-refundable.

Q. What's included in a school tour?
A self-guided tour of Craggaunowen Castle & Crannóg where students can trace the roots of the people, homesteads and artifacts of our Celtic ancestors.

Q. Is there a lunch area?
There are some benches and open spaces available:
- beside the car park
- at the admissions building
- the green adjacent to the castle
Please note these areas are not covered. In case of bad weather, please dress accordingly.

Q. Can teachers leaves their groups with Craggaunowen guides?
No, teachers must remain with their groups at all times. School groups remain the responsibility of their teachers while they are visiting.

Q. What if the weather is bad?
Craggaunowen is an outdoor park and so is affected by the weather. We advise groups to have a change of clothes on their bus just in case.

Q. Are there toilet facilities?
Yes, we have ample facilities between the main entrance and car park.

Q. Is there wheelchair access?
Craggaunowen is accessible however the paths can be uneven and muddy. Unfortunately Craggaunowen Castle is not accessible. There are disabled toilets on site. We advise visitors to liaise with Admissions staff on arrival for support and guidance.
