Celebrate the summer solstice with an unforgettable family day out at Craggaunowen from 11am to 5pm on Sunday, June 21.
Set within the iconic heritage site, the day promises a vibrant blend of music, crafts, history and outdoor fun for all ages. The celebration coincides with Father’s Day, making it the perfect opportunity to treat dads and grandads to a day filled with fun and laughter.
Throughout the day, guests can test their skill at archery as the expert team from Archery Ireland will guide both beginners and enthusiasts in the skill of hitting the bullseye. For younger visitors, Monika and her team will bring little imaginations to life with fun bubble shows, high energy games and colourful face painting.
The talented young performers of Clarecastle/Ballyea Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann take to the Castle Green offering a lively session of traditional Irish music from 12pm to 3.30pm. The sizzling summer BBQ will be offering some hearty favourites throughout the day, such as beef burgers, hot dogs, BBQ spareribs and even some nettle dumplings with hazelnut pesto.
For those eager to dive into Ireland’s ancient past, Craggaunowen will come alive with traditional skills and storytelling. Stefan will host captivating sessions of Irish mythology and folklore that transports listeners to a world of legendary heroes and mythical creatures, while Annika demonstrates the ancient craft of spinning and weaving, as she transforms raw fleece into colourful yarn using natural plant dyes.
Adding to the atmosphere, Arno will offer an immersive historical music performance as he specialises in medieval-era instruments including the Irish bouzouki, ceremonial frame drums and medieval bagpipes. Meanwhile, Seán, the woodworker, showcases the skill of woodturning on a replica pole lathe as he shapes timbers by hand in a demonstration that connects craft, nature and history.
